17u Tourney All-American Team

In a year in which baseball wasn't played around the entire country due to COVID-19, there were still plenty of standouts during the 2020 circuit. Taking precautions throughout the summer and fall, there were a number of players that stood out in a big way. We take a look back at the top performers at PG events with our annual PG Tournament All-Americans by age group, as we feature our 16U players today. 15 selections attended the 2020 Junior National Showcase in Hoover, Alabama at the start of the summer circuit, putting their names on the map early; while we saw another seven selections later in the summer at the East Cobb Complex during the prestigious Perfect Game Underclass All-American Games.

Juan Carlos De La Cruz, Carson Ballard, and Jack Butler led all honorees with 12 all-tournament team selections, followed by Pitcher of the Year Dylan Lesko with 11. Rounding out the players that earned double-digit nods are Jared Jones, Hunter Sanders, Agyei Quinichett, Aidan Jolley, Jake Streeter, and Riley Stanford, all with 10 all-tournament team selections each.

Jared Jones led all hitters outright in the 2022 class in a plethora of statistical categories, including hits, doubles, RBI, and total bases. While the sheer amount and volume of Jones’s numbers are staggering, being able to hold a .410 average with a 1.222 OPS over 266 plate appearances is the most impressive of all. Jones earned Player of the Year honors not only for his outstanding statistical feats, but also for his standout performances at high-profile events. He complied a .500 average with two home runs during the BCS 16U National Championship, and followed up that performance by showing out at the 16U World Series, where he hit .448 with seven extra-base hits.

Dylan Lesko is the no-doubt Pitcher of the Year selection for the jaw-dropping third-year in a row. With one more year still to go, Lesko has already produced an all-time PG career. He was excellent this year, producing a spotless 7-0 record while holding a .583 WHIP. He struck out a class-best 102 hitters over 65 innings, en route to MVPitcher awards at both the 16U Super25 National Championship and the 16U National Elite Championship.
