MLK South Scout Notes: Day 1


Show Cali Evolution won a tightly-contested matchup versus Hawaii Elite 2G that included four lead changes and a walk-off ending. Aukai (Jaydon) Kea (2024, Kapolei, Hawaii) put Hawaii Elite in front in the first inning with a two-run home run to deep left field. Kea is a primary catcher with a big 220-pound frame and obvious strength. He looks to do damage every time he’s up and aims to make contact in front of the plate. The freshman is the 75th ranked player nationally and has huge impact potential. Braylon Payne (2024, Fresno, Texas) got the comeback started for Show Cali, drilling a line drive to the right field gap and motoring around the bases for an RBI triple. Payne has had a great start to the weekend, going 2-for-3 with a triple in Friday’s game as well. The left-handed hitter gets on plane early and stays level through the zone with present bat speed.
