WWBA 14u Scout Notes: Day 1

Blake Ilitch (2025, Detroit, MI) got the start for the USA Prime National club and worked a brief two innings, getting his pitch count in check so he can return to the mound later in the tournament. The 6-foot-1, 175 pound right-hander cruised during his time on the mound, pumping the strike zone with a fastball that topped out at 81 mph and featured short cutting life away from right-handed hitters, inducing weak and chopped ground ball contact. His delivery is relatively simple and he repeats it well, allowing him to consistently work down with his fastball which will only continue to climb as he incorporates additional lower half into his drive down the mound. Ilitch didn’t have a consistent feel for his curveball in this look as he tended to slow his arm at release and get around the pitch, but when he did stay on top the pitch showed depth just as he did to end the first inning, locating a breaker to the back door, freezing a left-handed hitter.
