The second round of bracket play started with a strong pitching matchup as Sullivan Brackin (2022, Jacksonville, Fla.) got the nod on the mound for the East Cobb Astros 17u. Brackin was eventually dealt the tough-luck loss but the stuff was impressive early on and the Florida commit was coming off a very strong summer on the hill. Brackin stands at a physically imposing 6-foot-5, 210-pounds and features a quick-paced delivery with a stiffer front landing leg but a fast and loose arm that comes through the arm circle quickly. The righthander has a legitimate one-two punch on the hill with a fastball that will work into the low-90s, though he sat mostly upper-80s in this one, and a power curveball with biting two-plane action to it. The curveball has all the makings of an outpitch for Brackin with late, diving bite in the upper-70s and hammer-like depth at times. Brackin’s athleticism on the mound shouldn’t be understated, and gives him significant upside in the long term, as Brackin was efficient in this one but, unfortunately for him, someone has to lose a 1-0 game.
