One of the more consistent bats in the class is shortstop Tracer Lopez (2023, Rosebud, Tex.) who utilizes his combination of twitch and athleticism with bat-to-ball skills to make for some impressive top of the order tools. The Texas Tech commit is a true leadoff man with a short, fluid stroke with supremely advanced barrel ability that allows him to line the ball to any part of the ballpark and his penchant for finding empty grass for his liners certainly stands out. He went 3-for-3 in the first game of the tournament: lining an opposite field single, a single back up the middle, and showed off the wheels with an infield single. He’s very rarely fooled in the box as the contact skills and mature barrel ability make for a deadly offensive combination. The twitch plays on defense as well with good first step quickness and the glove work to stick up the middle. The maturity from an offensive perspective is impressive as Lopez looks like he’ll be terrorizing opposing pitching staffs for years to come.
