Northeast Qualifier Scout Notes: Day 1

Day 2 of pool play at The Northeast Qualifier brought plenty of intriguing matchups and standout performances, continuing to show the actual depth of the regions upcoming talent.

University of Pennsylvania commit Ryan Drombowski (2021, Mansfield, NJ) showed interesting upside with present stuff during his five-and-a third innings for Tri State Arsenal Founders Club. The strong, durably built right-hander sat in the mid-to-high 80s for most of his outing while topping out at 90 mph and striking out eleven hitters along the way. Working from a loose three-quarters arm slot, Drombowski pounded the zone with exceptional extension and life through the zone. The New Jersey native sequences his mix well, changing eye levels and speeds effectively to disrupt hitters timing. The secondary offerings flash good spin traits with repeatable arm speed and the potential for a true swing-and-miss offering. There is some more velocity in the tank, due to the relative ease of the operation and physicality to his frame. The 2021 Grad will be a name to monitor for next year’s draft with a strong spring season.

Auburn commit Kevin McGonigle (2023, Aldan, Penn.) has stayed hot as the weather has started to cool down. Hitting at a .521 (25 for 48) clip thus far in 2020, McGonigle continued to show an advanced hit tool with consistent bat-to-ball skills and the propensity to find the barrel often. The quick twitch middle-infielder shows smooth, fluid actions in the dirt with enough arm to stick on the left side for the time being. McGonigle shows an advanced approach at the plate each time he steps in the box with a simple, repeatable swing path and leverage through his finish. The Pennsylvania native went 2 for 4 in his first game this morning with two doubles and will be exciting to watch over the next few years within the region.
