Fall National Championship Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2

Day three kicked off with a fierce matchup between WW Sweets Upperclass and OC Ducks who were both 2-0 headed into day three. The third ranked overall player in the state of Washington and Gonzaga commit Nathan Deschryver (2021, Silverdale, Wash.) had quite a few scouts on hand to watch his start against the strong OC Ducks offense. Deschryver looked strong in stretches throughout his 3 1/3 innings pitched, however, his command wavered in key situations and he left the ball game giving up four runs off five hits while striking out six. Even though it wasn’t his best day on the mound, Deschryver still has promising stuff with a heavy fastball and a low 11-to-5 shaped slider that he can really get around and spin away from right-handed bats. He starts his motion slow and methodical, then really pushes down the hill with authority after separation. His fastball has the ability to run up to 92 mph but sat in the 87-89 mph range throughout his outing against the ducks. There’s also good arm side run and some downward angle to the plate on his fastball that will only continue to improve. He’s currently listed at No. 175 on PG’s Top 300 for the 2021 MLB draft, and he’s a player that will have the opportunity to either float or sink his stock this upcoming season.
