Purely a reliever since stepping on campus, Matthews has consistently been a very good strike-thrower in his career, though he’s always been more hittable than a player with his stuff should be. He’s undersized, pretty physically maxed out, and has a max effort, violent delivery; and while his fastball can reach the upper 90’s, it’s a flatter pitch through the zone at times. He struck out over a batter per inning at Oklahoma, and can be dominant with velocity at times.
