Joey Wiemer, OF, Cincinnati
Saturday was a quick turn around for Joey Wiemer who played in an extra inning game the night before, pitched to two hitters in the ninth inning and had to bounce back from a loss to Georgia State. The contest against Georgia Tech was certainly not indicative of what Wiemer brings to the table coming off of a loud sophomore season where he slugged 21 extra-base hits including six bombs. Wiemer went 0-for-4 at the plate while knocking in two runs.

Wiemer uses a powerful swing and generates a lot of bat speed from it. He starts with a high leg kick and sinks his hands deep when loading. The hands explode to the baseball and the barrel really creates whip through the hitting zone. It is easy to see Wiemer getting out in front with this type of approach, but the power is going to stand out when on time to impact. The swing plane is a bit uphill looking to lift while also having the ability to hit the ball on a line. The power potential was flashed in his batting practice grading out at average to above average. Wiemer’s frame is still very projectable standing at a lean 6-foot-5, 215-pounds. Wiemer is a guy to keep an eye on the rest of the season as the swing is either going to show tremendous potential or substantial holes. Wiemer also has upside on the mound where he was up to 94 mph in a two-batter outing Friday.
