JUCO to D-I Recruiting Classes

This is a subjective exercise. Opinions on the players listed come from a wide-ranging spectrum of bases, including our own personal evaluations, thoughts from the coaches who recruited them, thoughts from the coaches who coach and have coached them, and area scouts/crosscheckers who have seen them and evaluated them. There is no points system to calculate these class rankings. Furthermore, we’re not projecting the future in terms of the draft or academics here. It is quite likely that several of the players listed as commitments will sign with major league teams after the MLB Draft and not make it to their committed-to campuses.

Regardless, these rankings are ordered to reflect the impact each class would have if every player who is committed reaches campus. Players committed to four-year schools from post-grad academies are also eligible to be included in this exercise, as they are on the overall JUCO prospects/draft lists. These rankings don’t take class size into account, so there will be schools with many JC commitments lower than those who have just a few, and vice-versa. These rankings are subject to substantial movement in the coming months and we will do a follow up, finalized ranking in August once it’s determined exactly who will be arriving on campus at the four-year school of their choice.

Programs ranked 1-10 will be released on Wednesday.

11. Louisville

Louisville traditionally recruits extremely well on the prep side, and as such, similar to several upper-echelon programs, they don’t often have to hit the JUCO market hard to fill out their classes. They do a very nice job of supplementing their roster every cycle, but it’s often in smaller doses, as it is in this class to date, with three commits. Cameron Robinson is the upside play as a long, lean and projectable righthander with easy velocity. Given the projection remaining as well as the arm speed, Robinson could, after continued development, see a role as a weekend starter. Luke Seed will be a weapon out of the Cardinals’ bullpen once he arrives on campus with excellent pitchability and a dynamic changeup. Cooper Bowman comes from a perennial power in Iowa Western where he hit .412 as a freshman with 30 stolen bases and should provide a top-of-the-order presence with good defense in the middle infield.
