14u Mid-Atlantic Fall Quick Hits

Tons of talented teams made their way to New Jersey this past weekend for the 2019 PG Mid-Atlantic Fall Invitational with Canes Scott MD ultimately coming out victorious. Canes Scott MD continues to bring exciting rosters to Perfect Game events, which led to some top performances this weekend.

Owen Paino (2024, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) from Canes Scott MD was a standout on both sides of the ball this weekend.  On the mound Paino is extremely athletic with simple, repeatable mechanics. His fastball sat 76-78/80 with heavy arm-side run. Paino also flashed a high spin, hammer curveball with 12-to-6 shape that showed plus depth and tilt. At the plate Paino consistently found barrels all weekend. He hits from an upright, even stance and shows a smooth operation with minimal wasted movement. He gets on plane early and peppers balls to all fields. Power will continue to come with maturity and added strength which will make Paino an interesting follow for 2024 class. He finished off the weekend hitting .625, ultimately winning MVP of the 2019 PG 14u Mid-Atlantic Fall Invitational.

Jackson Hinchliffe (2023, Fair Haven, N.J.) from Canes Scott MD was impressive in his two outings over the weekend.  He has a long, lean projectable frame with plenty of room to add. Hinchliffe flashes a true three-quarters slot with whippy arm action. He established ability to hit both edges of the plate with his fastball and generated awkward swings-and-misses with a loopy curveball that was able to disrupt hitters' timing.

Eric Griffin (2024, Bowie, Md.) from Canes Scott MD continues to have strong showings at PG Events. Over the weekend Griffin impressed on the mound by using a low effort delivery with a short, slight stab on the backside of his arm stroke. He froze hitters with a knee-buckling curveball that showed  plus spin and tilt in short stint. Griffin is uber-athletic in all facets of the game and will be fun to watch as he matures over the course of the season.

Braden Manning (2023, Fairfield, Pa.) from Canes Scott MD continues to show his ability to pitch.  Manning has a long, lean projectable frame with plenty of room to add.  He has long, loose arm action from a high three-quarters slot with some effort in his delivery. His fastball sat 75-78/79 with plane and life. Manning created awkward swings-and-misses with 11-to-5 shape on his curveball. His performance allowed him to taking home MV-Pitcher honors of the 2019 PG 14u Mid-Atlantic Fall Invitational.

Mid-Atlantic Show 14u Johnston had strong representation this weekend. They finished in third place after dropping a highly contested semifinal game versus Canes Scott MD, 4-2.  Lukas Guerrier (2024, Hammonton, N.J.) was an interesting prospect to take the mound for Mid-Atlantic Show 14u Johnston. Guerrier is an extremely athletic righthander with a quick-tempo delivery and an over-the-top slot. He uses drop-and-drive in his lower half to create downward slope. Guerrier's fastball sat 75-77 with some sink.  He tunneled a hard, short slider for Ks. His first fall performance showed intrigue for the 2024 grad.
