Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Michael Busch, North Carolina
North Carolina enjoyed one heck of a ACC Tournament, going 4-0 with wins over Virginia, Miami, Boston College and Georgia Tech to win the championship, earn an automatic bid and also secure a hosting bid on their home turf in Chapel Hill. Busch was in the middle of the action, providing numerous big hits as UNC out-scored their opponents 33-14 in their four games played. He tripled and scored against Virginia, hit a two-run homer against Miami that tied the game on Friday, hit another two-run bomb in a 4-for-5 game against Boston College and finished things up with a double and a home run against Georgia Tech. Overall he went 8-for-19 (.421) with a double, a triple, three homers, two walks, nine runs scored and five driven in.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Gabe Shepard, Southern Miss
Shepard tossed the first 7 1/3 innings as part of a combined no-hitter for Southern Miss on Saturday in a 6-0 win over Rice during the Conference USA Tournament. Shephard faced only one batter over the minimum during his time on the mound, walking one batter while striking out 12, using just 91 pitches to navigate through the Rice lineup multiple times. Cody Carroll and Hunter Stanley combined for the final 1 2/3 innings to secure the no-hitter, and the victory, a win that propelled Southern Miss to the C-USA championship, a game they won against FAU with another shutout, 4-0, to earn the league’s automatic bid. It was Shepard’s 10th appearance of the year (seventh start) as the freshman moved to 2-0 on the year with a 2.16 ERA.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Stephen Scott, Vanderbilt
It’s hard to pick just one Vanderbilt hitter at any point this year with one of the most dangerous lineups in all of college baseball one through nine. However, senior outfielder Stephen Scott stood out in each of the Commodores’ four games as part of a 4-0 week that included a road sweep over Kentucky to close out the regular season. Scott’s biggest game came on Thursday in the opening game against the Wildcats in which he went 3-for-5 with a pair of homers, a double, three runs scored and four driven in. Overall he went 8-for-13 (.615) with nine runs scored, eight RBI, four walks, two HBPs, the double and four total home runs pushing his season slash line to .335/.458/.582 for top-seeded Vanderbilt heading into the SEC Tournament.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Garrett Stallings, Tennessee
Going into the weekend both Tennessee and visiting Ole Miss had their backs up against the wall, for different reasons, as the 2019 postseason approaches. It was a classic strength vs. strength matchup pitting Tennessee’s lock-down pitching staff against Ole Miss’ high-powered offense. It was Tennessee that walked away with the series win, re-entering the PG College Top 25 as a result, and it was staff ace Garrett Stallings that got things started on Friday night. Stallings went the distance, allowing just four base hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in a 7-0 win, Tennessee’s 10ththis year and third in SEC play. Stallings moved to 8-3 on the year, tossing his second complete game of the year, with an impressive 98-to-13 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 92 1/3 innings.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Bryce Ball, Dallas Baptist
Ball has been enjoying a very successful season overall, serving as DBU’s biggest source of power, and he picked the perfect time to enjoy his biggest week, helping to guide the Patriots to a sweep over Indiana State. Those three wins pushed Dallas Baptist to a first-place tied with Illinois State in the Missouri Valley Conference. All Ball did was hit five homers and drive in 13 runs in four ballgames as his team went 4-0 and out-scored their opponents 38-6. Ball had a two homer, five RBI game against Stephen F. Austin last Tuesday before adding one home run in each of the three games against the Indiana State over the weekend, with four RBI in Friday’s game and three on Sunday. Overall he went 8-for-15 (.533) with seven runs scored.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Bear Bellomy, Wright State
Bellomy was masterful in his most recent start, a complete game two-hit shutout as part of a 5-0 victory over Northern Kentucky. Bellomy needed just 105 pitches to complete the game, allowing just the two base hits and one walk while striking out eight. The win was Bellomy’s third straight, and the complete game was his third on the year and his second in three weeks, pushing his season win-loss record to 7-3 with a 3.19 ERA for 37-15 Wright State. Bellomy is now second in the Horizon League in innings (84.2), is tied for second in wins and is fifth in strikeouts (64).

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Nick Quintana, Arizona
In what has been a very impressive three-year career that now includes 30 home runs and 150 total RBI, Arizona infielder Nick Quintana had a very productive week for a Wildcats team that swept Oregon over the weekend. In four games (3-1) Quintana went 10-for-21 (.476) with four doubles, a homer, three walks, a sac fly, nine runs scored and 11 driven in. He had at least two hits, one run and one RBI in each of the four games. On Saturday he hit a three-run home run and on Sunday he hit a pair of doubles in a 3-for-6 performance that included five total RBI. On the year he’s now slashing .322/.454/.580 through 45 games and leads Arizona in homers (11) and RBI (57).

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Nick Snyder, West Virginia
It’s uncommon for a Pitcher of the Week performance to come out of a midweek game and that speaks to the outing West Virginia’s Nick Snyder enjoyed against Marshall last Tuesday. Snyder tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout in a 2-0 win for the Mountaineers, striking out 16 batters along the way while allowing just the one base hit and one walk. In fact, he carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning, finally allowing a base hit, only the second baserunner he allowed all game, with two outs. On the year the towering 6-foot-7 junior lefthander is now 6-1 with a 1.93 ERA and a 63-to-19 strikeout-to-walk ratio spanning 42 innings of work.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Alex Binelas, Louisville
Named the ACC Player of the Week two weeks ago, freshman infielder Alex Binelas has been on fire recently for Louisville, and he had his biggest week so far, helping to guide the Cardinals to a 4-0 week. He’s the second Louisville play in a row to be named Player of the Week and overall Binelas went 9-for-14 (.643) overall with 10 runs scored and 13 driven in. Eight of his nine hits went for extra bases (4 doubles, 3 triples and a home run), recording Louisville’s first cycle since 1998 on Friday during a 32-1 route over Alabama A&M. He now leads the team in batting and has 24 hits in his last 45 at-bats spanning 12 games, a stretch in which Louisville is 11-1.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Ryan Garcia, UCLA
It wasn’t a perfect game but UCLA ace Ryan Garcia was near perfect for the No.1-ranked Bruins on Friday in a 5-0 win over Utah, the first win of three against the Utes during a 4-0 week. Garcia tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout in which he allowed just three baserunners all game, none of which advanced past first base. He also struck out 14 along the way and needed just 108 pitches to finish the game and is now 5-0 on the year with a 1.10 ERA in 49 innings. During that time he has allowed just 24 hits and 15 walks while striking out 69, working his way back from an early season injury to now serve as the Friday starter for the nation’s top-ranked team.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Logan Wyatt, Louisville
Louisville’s offense has exploded over the past two weeks, winning eight of their last nine games, and not surprisingly Cardinals’ first baseman Logan Wyatt has been in the middle of the action. He kicked off the week with a 3-for-6, four-run, two-RBI performance against Kentucky and seemed to build up steam as the weekend progressed. While Wyatt’s biggest game came on Friday, in which he hit a pair of three-run homers, his biggest moment came in a deciding game three against Miami on Saturday in which he went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored, one of which came on a straight steal of home. On the week he went 11-for-20 (.550) with three doubles, three homers, nine runs scored and 12 driven in.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Jake Agnos, East Carolina
East Carolina, coming off of a 0-4 week that included being swept by UCLA in Los Angeles the week before, quickly got back on track and reversed their fortunes with a 4-0 week and a subsequent three-spot jump in the Top 25. ECU ace Jake Agnos was a big part of that success, setting the tone early during the Pirates’ three-game sweep over UConn, nearly going the distance while striking out 14 in a 5-1 win. Agnos, a junior lefthander, ended up hurling 8 2/3 innings, allowing just one run on five hits and a walk. His 14 punchouts set a career high, pushing his season record to 5-2 in 10 starts with a 2.85 ERA and a remarkable 91-to-18 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 60 innings of work.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Michael Toglia, UCLA
It had been a slow start to the season for star first baseman Michael Toglia, however, he changed that with a flair for the dramatic against a pair of ranked teams. During UCLA’s midweek game against then No. 15 UC Irvine, Toglia went 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored in a 9-3 win. He was just getting started as on Friday he hit the game-tying three-run home run in the sixth and the go-ahead two-run double in the eighth to win it against then-No. 9 East Carolina. On Saturday, in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader, he continued the late-game heroics with a walkoff three-run bomb. Overall on the week Toglia went 7-for-15 (.467) with six runs scored, eight RBI, a pair of doubles, two homers and a pair of walks.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Alek Manoah, West Virginia
Manoah was strongly considered for this same honor a week ago when he shut down Oklahoma State. He took his game to another level this past weekend, allowing just four base hits without walking a batter in a complete game shutout victory over a ranked Texas Tech squad. Most impressively he struck out 15 Red Raiders in what turned out to be a series win for West Virginia, their third Big 12 series victory in a row after taking down Oklahoma State and Oklahoma the previous two weekends, pushing the Mountaineers into the Top 25 for the first time this season. Manoah has been dominant all season long as he has allowed just 38 hits and 15 walks in 60 2/3 innings with 80 punchouts.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Tristin English, Georgia Tech
An exciting two-way talent, it’s with a bat in his hand that Tristin English has done the most damage at the college level. He had a big week for Georgia Tech, helping to beat Auburn last Tuesday before taking their ACC series against North Carolina to force their way into the PG College Top 25. English started with a pair of RBI against Auburn, hit for the cycle on Saturday and then hit a three-run homer, with four total RBI, in GT’s series-clinching win on Sunday. During the Jackets’ 3-1 week English went 8-for-15 (.533) with a triple, two doubles, two home runs, 10 runs scored and nine driven in. To cap off the weekend he even tossed the final inning out of the bullpen. English is now hitting .314-8-34 on the year.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Adrian Mardueno, San Diego State
San Diego State junior righthander Adrian Mardueno played a big part in securing two of the Aztecs’ three wins as part of a 3-2 week. It started last Tuesday when he pitched the final seven innings in a 4-3 win over No. 3 Oregon State. It continued on Sunday, securing the weekend series win over Nevada with four more scoreless inning of work.  Mardueno picked up the win in each of those contests, delivering 11 total scoreless innings. During that time he allowed just three hits and two walks, striking out 12 along the way while pushing San Diego State’s record to 18-14 overall and 7-6 in the Mountain West Conference. Marueno is now 3-1 on the year with a 1.50 ERA in 15 games spanning 36 innings.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Jake Sanford, Western Kentucky
It’s been a big season for Western Kentucky outfielder Jake Sanford, and he heads into the midpoint of the 2019 season coming off of the biggest week of his collegiate career. His efforts helped guide the Hilltoppers to a 3-0-1 week pushing WKU’s overall record above .500 at 14-11-1. In those four games Sanford went 12-for-17 (.706) with two doubles, five homers, eight runs scored and 15 RBI. The week was headlined by his three home run, eight RBI midweek performance against Eastern Kentucky. It should be noted that Sanford also went 3-for-5 with a double, two home runs, five runs scored and seven RBI last Sunday against FIU, which did not count as part of his Player of the Week efforts.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Zack Thompson, Kentucky
Kentucky has drawn some tough assignments (LSU, Texas A&M and Georgia) early in the conference schedule, leading to a 1-8 SEC record after three weeks of play. Thompson took it upon himself to earn that one win on Friday, tossing a complete game shutout in a 5-0 victory over the Bulldogs. Thompson was nearly unhittable, allowing just two base knocks and four walks while striking out 13. We had seen Thompson in early March when he was sitting in the low-90s, touching as high as 96, while mixing in a low- to mid-80s slider and a mid-70s curveball. The numbers that should be small are – 2.06 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, .182 batting average against – and those that should be big are as well – 68 strikeouts in 43 2/3 innings spanning seven starts.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Jimmy Titus, Bryant
After opening the season with a challenging schedule, which included a series at then-No. 1 LSU, Bryant has been playing well of late, winning 10 of their last 15 games. A big part of that has been the consistent production of a pair of redshirt sophomores, outfielder Ryan Ward and shortstop Jimmy Titus. Titus was especially hot the last week as Bryant went 3-1, including a 5-for-5, seven-RBI performance in a 23-3 midweek dismantling of Hartford. He capped the week by going 4-for-5 with four RBI on Sunday and overall went 11-for-18 (.611) with nine runs scored, 14 driven in, three doubles and three home runs.  Titus is now slashing .349/.449/.602 on the year leading Bryant in homers (5) and RBI (26) after entering the year as the Northeast Conference’s No. 1 prospect.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Drake Fellows, Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt responded in a big way after losing their first weekend series of the year the week before, sweeping visiting Florida in Nashville, and doing so in a rather convincing manner. The Commodores out-scored the Gators 34-6, winning the last two games by scores of 15-2 and 14-4. However, the game one 5-0 shutout set the tone for the rest of the weekend, doing so on Thursday night with the national spotlight upon them. It was 2015 PG All-American Drake Fellows acting this his usual ace-like self, delivering a complete game shutout while moving to 5-0 on the year. He allowed just five base hits and three walks in his nine innings of work, fanning eight Florida hitters while effectively mixing between his low-90s fastball and swing-and-miss slider.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Chris Lanzilli, Wake Forest
Lanzilli more than doubled his RBI total in four games of action on his way to being named the PG/Rawlings Week 5 Player of the Week. One Tuesday against Applachian State (a 5-4 win) Lanzilli went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs. On Friday (a loss) he went 1-for-5 with a double before going 2-for-5 with two doubles and three more RBIs on Saturday (a win). On Sunday he helped Wake capture their series against Boston College by enjoying a record-setting day, going 3-for-5 with a pair of dingers and 10 total RBIs. In that game he hit a grand slam, a three-run homer, a two-run single and also had an RBI groundout. In total he went 8-for-18 (.444) with seven runs scored, 16 RBIs, three doubles and two home runs.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Jake Kuchmaner, East Carolina
As if throwing 8 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball wasn’t good enough, a performance that led to Kuchmaner being named the Pitcher of the Week just seven days ago, the ECU lefthander decided to take his game to another level on Sunday against Maryland, tossing a perfect game while securing the sweep over the Terps. Kuchmaner struck out eight, and he also made an extended relief appearance on Tuesday, throwing 5 2/3 innings in a midweek loss to Duke, giving up a run on one base hits and three walks, fanning six in that game. In his last three appearances he has allowed only two hits over 23 1/3 innings and has joined Brendan McKay and Casey Mize as the only players to earn PG’s Player and/or Pitcher of the Week honors in the same season, much less back-to-back weeks.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Tucker Maxwell, Georgia
It’s been a good season so far for Georgia, enjoying a 5-0 week to push their overall record to 14-2. They out-scored their three opponents (Alabama State, Jacksonville State and Presbyterian) 48-11, and a big reason for their loud offensive outburst was due to the performance of their junior center fielder Tucker Maxwell. In those five games he went 9-for-16 (.563) with six runs scored, two walks, two HBPs, two stolen bases, three home runs and 15 RBI, accounting for roughly one third of the Bulldogs run production. He pushed his season-long average up to .349, fourth-best on the team, and is now tied for the team lead in RBI with 20. He also leads Georgia in stolen bases and has yet to be caught in nine attempts.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Jake Kuchmaner, East Carolina
Kuchmaner had some stiff competition this week as numerous hurlers stood out as they stretch out their arms allowing them to work deeper into ballgames. However, Kuchmaner’s start, a midweek performance against now No. 7 Ole Miss, in Oxford, was arguably the most impressive. Kuchmaner carried a no-hitter through 8 2/3 innings before allowing a base hit. Entering the ninth inning he had allowed just two baserunners to reach, especially notable considering the Rebels boast one of the most lethal lineups in all of college baseball, and they scored 41 runs in their four other games on the week. Kuchmaner’s final line wasn’t as impressive as the actual performance but was still plenty impressive, allowing two runs on just the one hit and one walk while striking out nine.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Andrew Vaughn, California
It was a small sample size for PG’s reigning College Player of the Year, but Vaughn played a huge role in the team’s weekend series win over nearby foe Saint Mary’s winning two of the three games. While he went 0-for-4 in the first game, a 10-3 win for the Gaels, Vaughn responded with a 4-for-5 performance in the second game, scoring three runs while hitting a pair of two-run home runs. He raised his production up a hair in game three, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI courtesy of a grand slam and a solo shot. On the year Vaughn now has more home runs (7) than strikeouts (5) as he looks to become the first player ever to be a two-time winner of the Golden Spikes Award.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Tanner Burns, Auburn
Burns’ teammate from a year ago, Casey Mize, who was the eventual No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, drew weekly Pitcher of the Week consideration for his season-long dominance. Those performances must have rubbed off on Burns, now a sophomore that has been every bit as dominant so far in 2019. A Freshman All-American last year, and a Perfect Game All-American during the summer of 2016, Burns tossed a complete game shutout on Friday against Cincinnati, the first of two 5-0 victories ina  three-game sweep. He struck out 15 batters, allowing just two base hits without giving up a walk. On the year Burns is now 2-0 with a 0.92 ERA and a 29-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 19 2/3 innings, very Mize-esque numbers with similar velocity readings.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Alec Burleson, East Carolina
Alec Burleson did a little bit of everything helping to lead No. 9 East Carolina to a 2-2 week and a series win over Monmouth. At the plate as the Pirates’ leadoff hitter he enjoyed three three-hit games, going 9-for-16 (.563) overall. In the team’s mid-week loss to Campbell he had a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning that tied the game before Campbell walked it off. On Friday he had a double and a sac fly in a 3-1 win over Monmouth while also allowing just one run on five hits and three walks with 10 punchouts in seven innings as the team’s staff ace. On Saturday he had a pair of doubles and two RBI in a 10-0 win to secure the weekend series.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Tommy Henry, Michigan
In a 2-0 win over The Citadel as part of a 3-0 weekend, No. 19 Michigan’s Tommy Henry was brilliant to open their three-game series in Charleston, S.C. A 6-foot-3, 205-pound lefthander, Henry went the distance on only 88 pitches, allowing just one base hit while striking out 13 batters in facing the minimum. His stuff matched his performance numbers, touching 91-93 mph early with his fastball before settling in at 90-92. Henry’s 83-85 mph slider was equally effective, as was his changeup, using all three pitches to elicit swings and misses. Not surprisingly given the 88-pitch count he pounded the strike zone all game, throwing 21 of 27 first-pitch strikes while retiring 16 of the 27 batters he faced on three pitches or less.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week: Tanner Allen, Mississippi State
It was a big weekend for the Bulldogs, hosting Youngstown State as they opened state-of-the-art new Dudy Noble Field, although they treated their guests rudely by out-scoring the Penguins 36-5 in a three-game sweep. In the middle of the scoring action was their cleanup hitter and first baseman, Tanner Allen, who in three games went 7-for-13 (.538) with three doubles, two homers, five runs scored and 13 RBI. It’s an encouraging start for the young slugger who finished his freshman season a year ago batting third for the team in Omaha. Allen was named the No. 4 prospect in the PGCBL last summer and is one of the top sophomore prospects in the nation, getting off to a hot start to open the 2019 campaign.

Perfect Game/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week: Jake Prizina, Seattle U
Coming off of a season in which he went 8-1 with a 3.82 ERA and a sparkling 92-to-17 strikeout-to-ratio spanning 99 innings, big things were expected out of Seattle U staff ace Jake Prizina, even if he simply replicated his 2018 numbers. There may be reason for further optimism after his start on Friday, shutting down a dangerous UNLV offense, in Las Vegas, by tossing a complete game shutout. In going the distance Prizina allowed just five hits and a walk, striking out five along the way. Possibly most impressive was that he only needed 98 pitches to go the full nine innings in a 4-0 win. The 6-foot, 190-pound senior lefthander faced only six batters over the minimum in his opening day masterpiece.
