While 2018 was a year full of adversity for the Tigers, the 2019 season is off to a fantastic start. LSU fared shockingly well in the draft, and two freshmen who look to make an immediate impact are C.J. Willis and Landon Marceaux. Willis is a future middle-of-the-order lefthanded bat and Marceaux’s advanced breaking ball and pitchability could earn him a spot in the weekend rotation right from the jump. The most important developments of the fall have been the returns from injury of Josh Smith and Eric Walker. Smith had a spectacular fall, and when healthy, he is a SEC Player of the Year candidate. The most important issue for Paul Mainieri to shore up will be catcher and junior college transfer Saul Garza (Howard College, Texas) seems to have the tools to be a viable answer there.
