Fall Instructional League Week #4 Recap

The PG Fall Instructional League was another huge success this weekend at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Players were put through a typical college workout led by lead PG Instructor Tim Evans alongside head Simpson College Baseball Coach Nathan Roling and fellow coaches. 

Below is a quick recap and some top perfomances from over the weekend. This weekend's camp will be hosted by Cornell College and head coach Seth Wing.



Red Dragons

Sebastian Hutson (2019, Norwalk, IA) once again led the way for the Red Dragons this past weekend. He pitched 3 innings and struck out 6 in the process. In the same game, Sebastian had 2 stolen bases. In the other game, Sebastian also drove in an RBI and made a great play behind the dish when he back picked a runner at first from his knees.

Alexander Swack (2019, Coralville, IA) pitched 5 innings for the Red Dragons this weekend, striking out 5 in the process. Swack sat 73-75 MPH on his fastball and had good action on his cuve, sitting between 62 and 64 mph. Swack also added an RBI Sac Fly in the opposite game of the double header.

Henry Bottorff (2023, Iowa City, IA) made the defensive play of the weekend. While playing second base, Bottorff ranged to the left on a pop up, made the diving catch and threw out a runner from his knees.

Blackhawks

Dane Churchman (2020, Ankeny, IA) picked up 3 hits on the weekend for the Blackhawks, driving in 2 singles and picking up 2 walks in one game and picking up another single in the other. His younger borhter, Damin Churchman (2023, Ankeny, IA) also got in on the action, with two hits on the weekend, one a single and the other a double over the head of the centerfielder. On the doublem Damin drove in 2 runs for the Blachawks. Damin also pitched this weekend, striking out 2 over 2 innings of work.

Eric Hayden (2020, Des Moines, IA) picked up 2 hits in a game this weekend, a double and a triple. The triple was very well hit and one hopped the fence.

Jason Moist (2020, Des Moines, IA) picked up 3 hits on the weekend and drove in 4 total RBI. Moist also pitched 2 innings while striking out 2.

Blue Devils


Carter Petsche (2109, Epworth, IA) was arguably the most impressive player this past weekend. Carter picked up 2 hits in one of the games, picking up a double, a stolen base and collecting an infield hit. In the opposite game, Carter also looked good on the mound. His fastball sat 75-79 and topped at 80 MPH. Carter struck out 6 batters in 3 innings of work.

Logan McDermott (2020, Cedar Rapids, IA) continued his tear on the mound this fall. His fastball sat 74-76 MPH and was complimented by a 60-62 MPH curveball. In his 3 innings of work, Logan struck out 4. Logan also tallied a sac fly and 4 RBI on the weekend.

Robert Porth (2019, Waterloo, IA) pitched 3 innings for the Blue Devils this weekend, striking out 7. His fastball sat 75-77 and topped at 79 mph. At the dish, Robert added 3 BB, two singles and a stolen base.
