The New Market Rebels added some dramatic flare to the championship final for the Valley League, as they utilized a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning to clinch the championship with an 8-5 final over Charlottesville. This capped off a 6-0 run in the postseason for New Market as they clinched their fourth championship in the Valley League and first since 2002.

No. 1 prospect, and league MVP, Andrew Eyster, set the Valley League ablaze, turning heads both by the coaches and scouts alike over the summer. Eyster hit a blistering .421 with nine home runs and the one thing that was certain is that Eyster’s offensive tools and performance put him solidly at the top in terms of prospects.

Thirty-six alumni of the Valley League were selected in the 2018 MLB draft, highlighted by second round draft pick Jonathan Bowlan who was an alumnus of New Market back in 2016. The first player selected who played in the league during the 2017 summer was Andrew Perez, an eighth round pick out of South Florida.

Top 5 Prospect Reports

1. Andrew Eyster, of, New Market (South Carolina/SO in 2019)
When collecting information from evaluators on the standouts from the Valley League this year the name that consistently came up at the top of the discussion was Eyster and his ability as the unquestioned best pure hitter in the league. Following up a big season at Santa Fe College at the junior college level, the Valley League MVP set the circuit ablaze this summer with a scorching batting average of .421 with nine home runs and nearly as many walks as strikeouts. Eyster fits the mold of a player who will be able to contribute right away in Columbia as the smooth stroke and advanced barrel skills will almost force the hand of the Gamecock’s staff to get Eyster in the lineup right away. The barrel ability helps his already solid raw power play up as Eyster is going to hit the ball hard all around the yard.
