EMERSON, Ga. – The Georgia Bombers White scored early and often on Tuesday, improving to 2-0 at the 15u Perfect Game/East Cobb Invitational with a 10-0 win over Diamond Elite Blue.

The Bombers were able to hit safely in four of their first five at-bats of the game, grabbing a 3-0 lead before many people had taken their seats. After a double from Rob Gordon and a single from Jaxson Corr, Preston Gunnell opened the scoring with a ripped single to right field. After a groundout that would score the second run of the game, Ryan Dupont roped a double to right, scoring the third and final run of the first.

Dupont, a 2021 recruit from Milton, Georgia, would end up with two hard-hit doubles on the day. The righty said that his approach at the plate was a big key to his success.

“I was thinking right-center the whole way, and the first one was outside so I was able to hit it that way, and then you know the second one was inside so I got it out front and drilled it to left field.”

Following the hot start, the Bombers were able to put together a shut down inning in the bottom half. After a Diamond Elite single, the duo of Carson Harof and Rob Gordon turned one of the prettier double plays you’ll see, keeping all the momentum in their third base dugout.

“It was a great performance on defense, and just a good game all the way around for us,” said head coach Cody White. “Double plays are just the best thing you can have.”

Outside of the double play, Rob Gordon was a bright spot for the Bombers on Tuesday. Gordon had both a single and a double to go along with a pair of stolen bases, as Diamond Elite was unable to keep him off the bags all afternoon.

Gordon is one of the only members of this Georgia Bombers roster to have attended a Perfect Game showcase, attending the National Underclass East Showcase in January of last year. With his quick hands and ability to run, Gordon is a name to watch out for in the 2021 class.

After the eventful first inning, the Bombers struck again in the second. Following a single from Harof, Braden Bamburowski – who would finish with a pair of runs bated in on the day – ripped a single into center to put the Bombers back on the board. The Bombers would go on to add two more in the second off the bats of Gordon and Gunnell.

This team loaded with talent has high hopes for the rest of the week, and a convincing win to stay on top of Pool B keeps them moving in the right direction.

For the Bombers, a trip to the playoffs more than likely comes an appearance from standout righty Riley Stanford. Stanford, who is a high follow in the 2022 recruiting class, features a heavy fastball that has been up to 88 in events past.

“He’s [Riley] a big arm for us,” said Coach White. “He comes in when big games are coming up, but we will see how he goes the rest of the week. You may see him come Thursday.”

Taking a back seat to the offensive show the Bombers put on today was a pitching staff that was equally as dominant. Starter Michael Mitchler scattered two Diamond Elite hits and had three strikeouts, while reliever Lawson Gailey threw two perfect innings out of the bullpen.

This Georgia Bombers team finds themselves just one win away from the playoffs heading into Wednesday’s action at the PG/EC Invitational, and with their sights set on a championship, it will be exciting to follow this group the rest of the way.
