Texahoma Region: Oklahoma, Texas

Not surprisingly, pitching is the strength of the Texahoma Region in 2018, along with a very strong junior class across both states that contributed four players.

Although southpaw Jonathan Childress was the only pitcher from the region to appear in the 2017 Perfect Game All-American Classic, there is notable depth in the pitching ranks, with nine senior hurlers from Texas ranking in the top 120 in the class nationally and a couple of more already making noise during preseason workouts this month. In addition to the All-Region pitchers below, look for others such as lefthander Joseph Menefee and righthanders Brandon Birdsell, Bo Blessie, Coy Cobb, Braydon Fisher and Jack Neely to get plenty of attention this spring.

Cypress Ranch, which features two All-Region hurlers in senior Ty Madden and junior Matthew Thompson, is the top-ranked team in the state, checking in at No. 5, just ahead of No. 7 San Antonio Reagan. Annual Oklahoma powerhouse Owasso is strong again this year and starts the year ranked 17th.




Texahoma Region High School Dream Team

C – Cole Moore, Sr., Georgetown HS, Georgetown (Texas)
Moore is a big and strong 6-foot-2, 218-pound lefthanded hitter whose best raw tool is his raw power at the plate. He has a short swing for his size and drives the ball hard to all fields. Moore hit .397-3-17 as a junior at Georgetown High School with 11 doubles and an impressive 26-to-7 walk-to-strikeout ratio, as opposing pitchers were clearly worried by his power. He is signed with Texas Tech.

1B – Hunter Watson, Sr., Pottsboro HS, Pottsboro (Texas)
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Watson plays shortstop at Pottsboro High School but plays corner infield during the summer and increasingly played more first base last year, including playing that position at the 2017 Perfect Game All-American Classic. He is a very strong lefthanded hitter with big pull power and hit .437-4-36 as a junior. Watson is also a standout football quarterback during the fall and passed for 1,179 yards and ran for 1,332 and 23 touchdowns as a senior. He is signed with Texas A&M.

MIF – Bobby Witt Jr., Colleyville Heritage HS, Colleyville (Texas)
Witt has been well known nationally since before he entered high school and is the top-ranked player in the Perfect Game class of 2019 national rankings. He hit .476-10-50 for Colleyville Heritage High School last spring and plays in so many events around the country that it is hard to imagine that he has two more years of high school to complete before he is even draft eligible. Witt, whose father Bobby won 142 games in 16 Major League seasons, has a verbal commitment to Oklahoma.

MIF – Jordan Groshans, Sr., Magnolia HS, Magnolia (Texas)
Groshans hit .447-10-28 last spring at Magnolia High School and was one of the top hitters on the summer circuit, including hitting home runs at both the PG National Showcase and the Perfect Game All-American Classic. A very projectable athlete at 6-foot-4, 190-pounds, Groshans plays the middle infield now but projects as a third baseman as he continues to fill out. He is the 18th ranked player in the PG national class rankings and has signed with Kansas, where his older brother, Jaxx, hit .237-1-38 as a sophomore last year.

3B – Wade Elliott, Jr., Deer Creek HS, Edmond (Okla.)
Elliott has become one of the top true third baseman in the 2019 class nationally based on his impact righthanded bat and his consistent defensive play, ranking 100th overall in the PG national class rankings. Elliot has a simple and very well-timed approach at the plate and consistently performed well and hit with power facing some of the best pitchers in the country on the summer circuit while also hitting .434-3-20 as a sophomore during the spring at Deer Creek High School. He has a verbal commitment to Missouri.

OF – Max Marusak, Sr., Amarillo HS, Amarillo (Texas)
Marusak was an unknown nationally until late last summer but that has completely changed as scouts got to see him at the Area Code Games in August and the WWBA World Championship in October. He is the fastest top prospect in the country and a terror on the basepaths, where his lightning quick first step and baserunning instincts are elite skills. Marusak has been timed as a low as 3.89 from home to first base from the right side but he's not just a slap-and-run player and he has solid gap power and very good bat speed. He is signed with Texas Tech but could very well be a first day draft in June.

OF – Korey Holland, Sr., Langham Creek HS, Houston (Texas)
Holland is one of the fastest players in the Texahoma Region and significantly improved his strength and raw bat speed over the course of the last year to put him firmly on the prospect map. He is son of former minor league outfielder and highly respected hitting coach Sid Holland and it's easy to see the pro hitting influence in Holland's strong and compact righthanded swing. He is signed with Texas.

OF – Logan Britt, Jr., All Saints Episcopal HS, Benbrook (Texas)
Britt is one of the most toolsy players in the 2019 class nationally and is ranked 10th in the Perfect Game class rankings. Britt has exceptional strength at 6-foot-4, 210-pounds with plenty of projection remaining and has huge righthanded power potential with the ability to hit the ball out of the park to any field. Britt also might have the strongest throwing arm of any 2019 outfielder in the country and also has a low-90s fastball off the mound. He has a verbal commitment to Texas A&M.

UT – Grayson Rodriguez, Sr., Central Heights HS, Nacogdoches (Texas)
Rodriguez lists himself as a primary first baseman and he very well could be a two-way standout if he reaches Texas A&M. Professional scouts look at the extra strong 6-foot-5, 220-pound Rodriguez as a pitcher first, with a fastball that will top out at 93 mph and sit consistently in the low-90s to go with a big-breaking upper-70s slurve. A lefthanded hitter, Rodriguez hit .511-11-53 as a junior at Central Heights High School after hitting .505-8-60 as a sophomore. On the mound he went 14-1, 0.38 with 178 strikeouts.

SP – Jonathan Childress, Sr., Forney HS, Forney (Texas)
A Perfect Game All-American who ranks 29th nationally in the 2018 class, Childress is also the fourth-ranked lefthanded pitcher. A true four-pitch starter who can touch 94 mph with his fastball on occasion, Childress gets outstanding angle on his pitches from his long-armed 6-foot-4 build and a high three-quarters arm slot. He went 8-1, 0.48 with 137 strikeouts at Forney High School last spring and threw three no-hitters while also hitting .343 with 20 RBI. He is signed with Texas A&M.

SP – Ty Madden, Sr., Cypress Ranch HS, Cypress (Texas)
Madden went 6-5, 2.95 as a junior but improved significantly through the summer and fall and is ready for a big spring. He has an ideal pitcher's body with long arms on a 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame and three quality present pitches. Madden has topped out at 94 mph on his fastball but both his low- to mid-80s slider and especially his darting changeup are potential plus pitches. He is ranked 53rd in the 2018 class nationally and is signed with Texas.

SP – Adam Kloffenstein, Sr., Magnolia HS, Magnolia (Texas)
Kloffenstein is a physical presence on the mound with a broad-shouldered and physically mature 6-foot-5, 220-pound build and a compact delivery that hides the ball very well. He works in the low-90s with a heavy sinking fastball and has outstanding feel for his slider, which he can add and subtract from to give hitters different looks ranging from a cutter to a sweeping curveball. Kloffenstein combines with All-Region infielder Jordan Groshans to give Magnolia High School, ranked 30th in the PG National High School Top 50, one of the best pitcher/player duos in the country. He, like Groshans, is signed with Texas Christian.

SP – Matt Thompson, Jr. Cypress Ranch HS, Cypress (Texas)
Thompson is the lone junior pitcher on the All-Region team and is the sixth-ranked player in the 2019 class nationally. He went 4-0, 1.62 with 46 strikeouts in 34 innings as a sophomore on the loaded Cypress Ranch pitching staff, which also features fellow All-Region pitcher Ty Madden. Thompson has a loose and athletic 6-foot-3, 185-pound build and a lightning quick arm that produces a fastball that tops out at 96 mph to go with a powerful low-80s curveball and a developing changeup. He has a verbal commitment to Texas A&M.

SP – Simeon Woods-Richardson, Sr., Kempner HS, Houston (Texas)
Woods-Richardson was throwing 72 mph before his freshman year before adding 10 mph each of the next two years and another couple of ticks prior to his senior year. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound two-way standout now works up to 95 mph on his fastball to go with a sharp-breaking upper-70s curveball and a promising low-80s changeup. The Texas signee went 8-1, 1.26 as a junior with 129 strikeouts versus only 11 walks while hitting .430-7-26. He is the 37th-ranked player in the PG national class rankings.
