14u Major

EMERSON, Ga. – 
The Dirtbags jumped out to an early lead that they would not relinquish en route to a victory in the championship game of the 2017 14u PG Invitational Major Division. The Dirtbags defeated the Pensacola Storm 12-0 in the final game of the tournament and used both an extraordinary effort from their starting pitcher and a potent offense to do so.

Carter Holton started for the Dirtbags on the mound and pitched a spectacular game. Before being removed for pitch count, Holton tossed 5.2 scoreless innings while allowing only two hits and striking out an absurd twelve batters. Holton dominated batters all night with his fastball and threw a game-high sixteen first pitch strikes.

The offensive effort was led by Jacob Orr as he collected two hits and scored two runs on the day. Dylan Hatfield and Quinn Allen also contributed to the cause with two hits of their own. Allen led the team in RBI on the day with two.

The game started off with the Dirtbags putting up a four-spot in the top of the first inning. After the teams had a stalemate for the next few innings, the offense exploded for the Dirtbags with eight combined runs scored in the final two frames.

Jacob Orr of the Dirtbags was named the MVP for the event as he collected a team-high secen hits, a (.636) batting average, with five RBI, four runs scored, and three triples. Carter Holton, also of the Dirtbags, was named the MV-Pitcher for the event. His twelve-strikeout performance helped lead the team to the championship victory.

14u Minor

EMERSON, Ga. – 
In the Minor Division for the 2017 14u PG Invitational, Georgia Octane jumped out to an early lead that it would not relinquish for a 9-2 victory over GEB. The high-powered offense combined with a complete game effort from the starting pitcher helped the Octane cruise to victory.

Starting pitcher Will Robbins went the distance for the Octane and he was certainly impressive. Robbins was extremely efficient, only 77 pitches, and pounded the strike zone, 71% strikes, while racking up six strikeouts.

Andrew Kightlinger, Jax Weaver, and Tyler Nelson all contributed two hits apiece with Weaver and Nelson both contributing two RBI each.

The bottom of the lineup contributed a lot of the hits as well, and the entire offense as a hole had a very successful afternoon for the championship win.

Andrew Kightlinger was named the MVP for the event for the Georgia Octane. Kightlinger has a team high six hits, (.500) batting average, and scored one RBI with three runs scored. Ethan Norton of GEB was named the MV-Pitcher as his start saw him toss a complete game shutout while allowing no earned runs and striking out four batters.

13u Major

EMERSON, Ga. – 
In a game that saw multiple momentum shifts., the Crescent City Hooks took down Team Elite South 13u Cooper in the championship final of the 2017 13u PG Invitational Major Division. The Hooks used two big middle innings to take a lead and Team Elite stormed back, but the comeback was not enough.

All knotted up after one full frame, the scoring started after that in the bottom of the third inning for the Hooks. They put up a four-spot in the third and a three-spot in the fourth inning to take a big eight-to-one lead.

Three-hole hitter Cade Pregeant had a big game going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored. The rest of the lineup put up seven hits on total and took advantage of three errors that the defense committed to score runs as well.

Pregeant also started the game on the mound and provided quality innings for the Hooks. He tossed 5.2 innings while striking out three batters and only allowed two earned runs.

Team Elite scored five runs in the final three innings but was not able to muster enough offense to come back and the Hooks held on for the win.

Jalen Johnson of the Hooks was named MVP as he had a (.400) batting average with four RBI and three runs scored. He also added a team-high six stolen bases to help get into scoring position to be driven in. J. Henry Hobbs of Team Elite was named the MV-Pitcher as he tossed five shutout innings while allowing only two hits in a start earlier in the tournament.

13u Minor

EMERSON, Ga. – 
Indians Baseball defeated the Georgia Canes by a score of 5-3 to capture the title of the 2017 13u PG Invitational Minor Division. The Indians used a combination of strong pitching and timely hitting to help secure the championship.

The Georgia Canes put up a very competitive display and only lost by two runs. The offense kept the pressure on the Indians’ pitching staff and the offense included Holt Vanhoy who had a team-high two hits on the day.

Starter Ace Williamson provided quality innings on the mound for the Indians to the tune of six innings while allowing only two earned runs and striking out four batters. After Williamson departed, Brody Hollingsworth came in to slam the door shut and pitched a perfect inning for the save.

Williamson and Hollingsworth contributed at the plate too, posting nearly identical stat lines of two hits and various runs scored and RBI between them. The offense as a whole was clicking on all cylinders as they put up ten combined hits to keep the pressure on the Canes all game long.

Connor Herriot of Indians Baseball was named MVP of the tournament and he hit a blistering (.619) with a team leading thirteen hits. He knocked in eight runs and scored eight by himself while also adding an RBI hit in the championship game. Ethan Wells of the Georgia Canes was named the MV-Pitcher for the event thanks to his start where he went five scoreless innings while scattering contact and only allowing two hits.
