Spring League Week 4 Recap

Week 4 of the Iowa Spring League is in the books and what a beautiful weekend for baseball!  There were quite a few performances worth mentioning.  The rosters for April 22-23 in Wisconsin will be announced later today.  The league schedule for April 22-23 will be announced later today as well.  On to the recap!

Hitters Navy can really swing it

The Hitters Navy can really swing the bat.  Their roster is filled with Division 1 commits and they certainly performed this past weekend at Norway and Iowa.  Nathan Aide (2017 - Franklin) was on fire collecting 9 hits in 14 at bats.  Jarred Kelenic (2018 - Waukesha West) did what Jarred Kelenic does and excelled in all facets of the game.  He collected 6 hits- 4 of them for extra bases, played excellent defense by hosing a runner at home from center field, and topping at 91 MPH off the mound.  Trey Leonard (2017 - Washington) swung it well collecting 4 hits with 2 doubles.  Alex Binelas (2018 - Oak Creek) hit a home run and showed good hitting tools.  As a team they collected 14 extra base hits in 4 games and scored 40 runs.  Austin Mihlbauer (2017 - Mukwonago) and Ryan Bader (2017 - Mukwonago) both pitched well while topping at 88 MPH with the fastball.  For Hitters Red Xavier Watson (2019 - South Milwaukee), Paul Toetz (2019 - Greendale), Cameron Raupach (2018 - Neuqua Valley), and AJ Vukovich (2020 - East Troy) all swung the bat well and showed good tools.

Nettleton Dominant

Clayton Nettleton (2018 - Davenport West) was dominant in his 3 innings of work pitching at 86-89 MPH with his fastball.  He threw just 41 pitches in his 3 innings of work while throwing 73.2% strikes.  He allowed 2 hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out 4.

Home Runs Plentiful in Week 4

There were plenty of home runs in Week 4.  Brayden Frazier (2018 - Jefferson), Evan Crawford (2018 - Pleasant Valley), Zakary Packingham (2018 - Kennedy), Tony Comellas (2018 - Iowa City West), Joel Thompson (2017 - Lewis Central), Pat Diemer (2017 - Waukee), and Kobey Saddoris (2019 - Norwalk) all went deep.  Frazier has high level hitting tools and a lot of extra base hits this season.  Crawford has really turned in on the past couple weeks and is making a lot of hard contact.  Packingham ran into one at Independence that went way out of the yard.  Comellas hammered his home run off the scoreboard at Iowa.  Thompson has shown a lot of pop in the bat through the years and got one out at Independence.  Diemer has shown solid tools this spring both with the bat and defensively.  Saddoris got into one and hit it out of the yard at Independence.

Drezek competes well vs STiKs 2017's

Graysen Drezek (2020 - North Scott) pitched well against the Wisconsin STiKS 2017's going 4 innings allowing 3 hits and no runs with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts.  He was up to 83 MPH with his fastball and threw 62.9% strikes.  He's an interesting young 2020 with upside.

Blunt, Bockenstedt, Brown and Krob shut down STiKS 2018's

The combination of Jarrett Blunt (2018 - Ottumwa), Jake Bockenstedt (2018 - Washington), Trever Brown (2018 - Don Bosco), and Austin Krob (2018 - Lisbon) pitched well against the STiKS.  In 2 games they allowed a combined 2 runs on 8 hits with 25 strikeouts and 5 walks.  Bockenstedt was the most efficient allowing no hits in 4 innings with no walks and 8 strikeouts.  He pitched steady at 83-84 MPH with his fastball.  Brown and Blunt topped at 87 MPH with their fastballs and showed pitchability.  Krob didn't allow a hit in his 3 innings of work and showed a lot of run on his fastball.

Nathan Burns dominant

Nathan Burns (2017 - West Bend West) was dominant vs the Aquasox.  He pitched at 88-90 MPH with his fastball and located it well.  He threw 70.7% strikes, allowed no hits, and struck out 6 in his 3 innings of work.  He's a very projectable arm for the 2017 class.

Nigut with strong outing

Will Nigut (2018 - Roosevelt) pitched well going 3 innings and throwing an efficient 30 pitches.  He allowed 3 hits and 1 run while pitching to contact well.  He pitched at 81-84 MPH with his fastball and projects for more.  

Ono-Fullard swings it well

Izaya Ono-Fullard (2017 - Iowa City West) swung the bat well collecting 2 doubles and a triple on the weekend.  He has high level hitting tools and makes consistent hard contact.

Morgan collects 5 hits on the weekend

Wyatt Morgan (2019 - Pleasant Valley) swung the bat well collecting 5 hits in 3 games played.  He also had a double and 3 RBI.  Morgan showed some bat speed and barrel skills with some strength in his swing.

McKown with 4 hits

Ryan McKown (2020 - Davenport West) swung the bat well collecting 4 hits on the weekend.  He's a good young player with solid tools across the board.

Oberbroeckling with 4 hits

Tyler Oberbroeckling (2019 - Linn Mar) swung the bat well collecting 4 hits on the weekend.  He's showing improving hitting tools at the plate and has made consistent solid contact so far this spring.
