2017 Perfect Game High School Preview Index

Northeast Region: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont

It is wise not to underestimate the Northeast Region's ability to develop impact talent and the region is as ripe as ever for top-level talent. Whether it's recent first-round draft picks and PG All-Americans Ian Anderson and Jason Groome, or perennial MLB All-Star and MVP Mike Trout, the region has always been stacked with high school talent.

Schools on the East Coast know how to play the game and always produce talent that translates well to the next level. The athletes represented on the All-Region Dream Team are either high-level MLB Draft prospects and or likely immediate contributors at the collegiate level. Baseball players from the region have the same high-level tools and instincts as any other region and produce on the field just as well.

Perfect Game All-Americans represented on this list are Nicholas Storz and Quentin Holmes of New York, while Poly Prep Country Day (N.Y.), Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) and Malvern Prep (Pa.) are represented on the Preseason High School Top 50. The region features some truly exciting talent and the 2017 high school season promises to be one of the best of recent memory from the Northeast.


Northeast Region Dream Team

C – David Lamanna, Sr., Bergen Catholic HS, Saddle River (N.J.)
One of the top defensive catchers in the class, Lamanna has some of the best defensive tools behind the plate. Offensively he creates good bat and hand speed with the ability to drive the ball with authority to all fields. Lamanna should be a stout defender all season long for Bergen Catholic and will be one of the senior leaders on a team expecting big things in 2017.

1B – Jason Pineda, Sr., Metropolitan HS, Bronx (N.Y.)
Pineda offers positional flexibility, he is listed as a primary third baseman, but he will also play first base. The bat is his calling card with a good weight shift into contact and a lot of raw power on his 6-foot-1, 220-pound frame. Pineda has a good knowledge of the strike zone and very good plate discipline which allows him to lay off bad pitches and sit on pitches where he can show off his power in game.

MIF – Constantine Andrew Papantonis, Sr., Delbarton HS, Glen Gardner (N.J.)
The Virginia signee will miss the majority of the season with a knee injury but he is a special talent on the diamond. Papantonis does everything extremely well on the baseball field from his advanced defensive actions and instincts to his sound hit tool and extremely high baseball IQ. Papantonis has all the makings of a player who should thrive at the next level and will be fun to monitor along the way.

MIF – Benjamin Casparius, Sr., Staples HS, Westport (Conn.)
The extremely athletic, versatile Connecticut product provides value on a baseball field in more ways than one. Casparius provides solid defensive actions on the left side of the infield, whether that be at shortstop or third base, and has impressive arm strength evidenced by being up to 91 mph off the mound. Casparius also has some under-the-radar power that comes from his strong 6-foot-2, 208-pound frame to go along with loud contact up the middle and should be an immediate impact if he gets to campus at Chapel Hill.

3B – Nicholas Egnatuk, Sr., Immaculata HS, Basking Ridge (N.J.)
One of the players who may stand to improve his draft stock the most up through June is the third baseman from Immaculata. Egnatuk has one of the best swings and hit tools in the class and impressed at nearly every event he participated in during his junior season. The athletic lefthanded hitter can drive the ball to nearly every corner of the ballpark and put together a strong showing during BP and in game at East Coast Pro last year.

OF – Quentin Holmes, Sr., Monsignor McClancy HS, East Elmhurst (N.Y.)
The former Perfect Game All-American is known for his incredible athleticism and lightning-quick speed. Holmes has one of the highest ceilings of any player in the country and the hit tool continues to get better and better. The calling card for his profile is his speed which he uses to his advantage both offensively and defensively. Projection is off the charts for Holmes and he should continue to get better as the season progresses.

OF – Mike Siani, Jr., William Penn HS, Glenside (Pa.)
Siani profiles as close as one can get to being a five-tool player with his entire skill set playing extremely well. As he continues to develop and add strength his power should play extremely well to go along with his tremendous bat speed and hitting approach. He shows true centerfield traits as well and is one of the more advanced prospects despite being only a junior.

OF – Tor Sehnert, Sr., Peters Township HS, McMurray (Pa.)
The senior outfielder from Pennsylvania continues to climb up draft boards as his overall athleticism and set of tools continue to grow and impress. The frame and build are both projectable with the overall athleticism to be a sound defender in the outfield to go along with his arm strength. At the plate, he continues to develop a strong hitter’s profile with very good bat speed and the raw power to hit home runs to all parts of the field.

UT – Nick O’Day, Jr., Bishop Shanahan HS, Coatesville (Pa.)
O’day profiles well both on the mound and at the plate for the future. He is an outstanding athlete with smooth, sound defensive actions from the outfield and the arm strength to complete the package. At the plate, he has a loose, fluid swing with the ability to drive the ball with intent and create backspin. He has a strong arm and that plays well on the mound with the velocity reaching as high as 91 mph.

P – Joe Lancellotti, Sr., Archbishop Wood HS, Bensalem (Pa.)
Lancellotti has one of the most physical frames of any pitcher on this list and uses that to his advantage in his delivery. He uses a drop and drive mechanic to generate explosiveness and forward momentum and create velocity. The fastball has been up to 93 with two offspeed pitches that have impressed in the past. The slider has good tilt and the changeup gets mixed in occasionally, but the repertoire is primarily fastball and slider.

P – Christopher McMahon, Sr., West Chester HS, West Chester (Pa.)
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound righthander showed impressive tools on the mound at the WWBA World Championships late last year. McMahon worked 92-94 early on with command of the fastball being one of his strong suits. With his three-pitch repertoire and impressive resume over the past fall and summer, McMahon has shot up a lot of draft boards and is in store for a very strong senior campaign.

P – Brandon Neeck, Jr., Horace Greely HS, Chappaqua (N.Y.)
Neeck is one of the most polished pitchers in the region and he hasn’t even reached his senior year of high school yet. He has an extremely projectable frame with a fastball that he can command very well that has already reached as high as 92 mph. Neeck shows a solid arsenal of pitches with an advanced feel to spin on breaking balls that are legitimate swing-and-miss type pitches.

P – Nicholas Storz, Sr., Poly Prep Country Day, Brooklyn (N.Y.)
The second Perfect Game All-American to join this list is the 6-foot-6, 245-pound physical specimen Storz. He has some of the best raw power in the class at the plate and can run his fastball up to 94 mph as well. Storz attacks hitters with his powerful fastball and the feel to spin a breaking ball is still developing but he is primed to be one of the next, great two-way prospects at the college level should he get to Baton Rouge.

P – Matt Tabor, Sr., Milton Academy, Westford (Mass.)
Tabor is another pitcher who is building off a very impressive performance at the WWBA World Championship to vault into the 2017 season. Tabor has advanced pitchability and has shown that he is not afraid to pitch backwards or throw any of his three pitches in any count. He will mix in separate fastballs that will reach as high as 91 mph to go along with a changeup that shows late dive to it and a breaking ball that is an effective secondary pitch.
