Gates really burst onto the prospect map several years ago and has been really fun to watch develop. Now, he is one of the better pure pitchers in the class, which means he’s not just a guy trying to light up the radar gun. Gates has plenty of velocity, sitting in the low-90s consistently with lots of angle and life, and he also shows both a very good slider and a changeup, throwing all three pitches for strikes and sequencing very effectively.
