He was very ill with flu like symptoms during the National Showcase and couldn't pitch in game situations but threw a bullpen at the end of the event for the scouts to see. The son of Oklahoma State coach Frank Anderson, Brett Anderson has very smooth pitching mechanics with a clean arm action. He has command of all three of his pitches and an advanced knowledge of pitching. Anderson has been consistently seen in the low 90's this summer and has pitched at the highest levels with great success. He has a chance to be a very high draft pick next June and ranks as one of the top pitchers in the 2006 class. Anderson is also a 4.0 student off the field.

Eric Hosmer is a 2008 1B/P with a 6-4, 210 lb. frame from Cooper City, FL who attends American Heritage HS. He has a Big League body, with excellent strength and proportions and is in top level shape. Hosmer did nothing in Cincinnati to make anyone question that he is the top hitter in the 2008 class. He is a pure hitter with bat speed, confidence and a very mature ability to adjust to different pitches and make solid contact to all fields. Hosmer realizes he doesn't have to show his light tower power every swing but it's there if he sees his pitch. There haven't been many better in the last generation of high school hitting prospects in our opinion. Lost in the talk about Hosmer's hitting ability as a prospect are his other tools. He is an outstanding defensive first baseman with light feet and soft hands and polished balance round the bag. He threw 92 mph from first in infield drills, which is unheard of from a first baseman, and we've heard he's thrown up to 94 mph this summer from the mound from the left side, although he didn't pitch in Cincinnati. Hosmer has a verbal commitment to Arizona State but he should be one of the top picks in the 2008 draft if nothing steps in his way. Selected to 2007 Aflac All-American team.

Nasty curveball with velocity, hard spin and depth, can manipulate shape of CB and spot it to both sides of the plate, plus/plus pitch, one of the best seen at this level. Rare change up but it was also plus with late diving action and good arm speed. Absolutely no contest vs. hitters.

Very fast for his size, 6.37 in the 60, smooth gliding actions in the infield, looks like a third baseman but has deceptive quickness and speed at shortstop, gets rid of the ball very quick and masks true arm strength, soft hands and comes through the ball well, balanced with body control, highly instinctive player. Right-handed hitter, deep load, easy fluid swing with bat speed, ball comes off hard, consistent hard line drive contact, has leverage without effort, hits under control, drives right centerfield, doesn't show loft power now but likely to in the future. Didn't pitch but is a very successful pitcher as well. Polished player who performs and sees the game in slow motion. Very good student, verbal commitment to North Carolina. Selected to the Perfect Game All-American Classic.

Jason Heyward is a 2007 OF/1B with a 6-4, 220 lb. frame from McDonough GA, who attends Henry County HS. Heyward has a big league body right now, with tall, angular features and a very broad frame. Someone made a comparison to Ryan Howard at the Showcase and that seemed like a good comparison. Heyward is at the stage of development right now where he can flash is prodigious power and bat speed but most of his solid contact is in the form of hard line drive, some of which just happen to carry a long way. He has a level, line drive swing plane right now and really hasn't learned how to lift the ball consistently. That will come with time. Heyward's primary weakness at the plate now is a tendency to get out front and reach for balls. A continually surprising part of Heyward's game is his speed and baserunning ability. He didn't run the 60 at the Showcase but was 4.34 on a ground ball and stole bases at will, most of the time standing up. He's a very aggressive and very instinctual base runner. Heyward's enjoyment/enthusiasm on the field is obvious. He has the chance to be a very high draft pick next June.

Cameron Maybin is a very athletic MLB bodied, projectable 6-3, 195 lb. OF from Arden, NC. To no ones surprise Maybin was one of the stars of the showcase, almost matching Justin Upton in his speed/power combination. He put balls out of Tropicana from both sides in batting practice and went long ball to the opposite field in game action as well. Put that together with 6.40 speed in the 60 and you have a world class athlete. He has a MLB ave. arm from the outfield and the other tools are plus or plus plus. He's an exciting outfielder who glides with outstanding range. There is absolutely no reason that Cameron Maybin should not be a Major League star player. He has some things to work on, for example, he's a free swinger who chases a few pitches. Oh, I guess that's about all! He reminds us of Vlad Guererro as a hitter. Cameron is a good student with a not so great SAT. He's a great makeup guy and about a sure of a first round pick as they come. Of course that all depends on signability. Cameron was selected to the AFLAC All American Team.

Has ingredients for power, will need more weight shift through contact to unleash it, strong at contact. Tends to wrap change up in back and tip the pitch with slower arm speed. Fills up the zone and gets quick outs. Right handed hitter, balanced swing with very good bat speed, big power to the middle of the field and pull side, solid overall swing approach. Good footwork at third base defensively and some quickness for his size, loose quick arm with very good carry on his throws. Freddie Freeman is a 2007 left-hand hitting 1st baseman/outfielder from El Modena HS, residing in Villa Park, CA. Freeman has a long, strong, lean build on a well-proportioned 6-2, 200 lb. frame that will continue to fill out. He has long arms and legs that will continue to get stronger as he physically matures. Freeman is one of the top pure hitters in the '07 high school class and was ranked #7 among PG National Top 100 position players. When he is swinging the bat well, he is a fun to watch hit as anyone in this class. Freeman has plus plus hands for hitting. The one thing that he loves to do on the field is to get in that batters box and hit. He gets behind the ball at contact and squares up consistently on time, further adding power to the what his produced by his bat speed and strength. Freeman routinely makes plus barrel contact and produces easy easy power. The ball makes a different sound off his bat than with most players. He has plus power to all fields and at times his power is just explosive. Freeman is not only a power hitter, but a high average hitter as well. He has a short stroke and is much stronger than he looks. He is the type of hitter that can miss the barrel and is still plenty strong enough to not just get the ball over or through the infield, but he can still get into the gaps when he doesn't square up the barrel. To watch him on one of his better days makes a scout imagine 40 dingers in the Big Leagues. One of Freeman's attributes that serves him so well as a hitter is that he has a short memory. When he makes an out or doesn't get a pitch as well as he felt he could, he simply looks forward to his next at-bat. If he ran better Freeman would project well as a right fielder. He has a plus arm and can throw accurately. However, he is a below average runner and likely will stay at first base in pro ball. His hands and footwork are good there and he plays the position well. Freeman ran a 7.80 60 yard time. He is an upper round professional prospect and has verbally committed to Cal State Fullerton. With an average (for him) spring he will go well in the draft and with a big spring, he is a first round candidate.

Very athletic young build, continues to add strength but is still very loose. Fast paced leg raise delivery, full quick arm circle, energy in his delivery, tends to get cross body at times, high 3/4's arm slot. Fastball to 94 mph, has added a new cutter to his fastball that he uses with confidence. Also more power to his curveball, very hard and tight spin at times, knee buckler at lower speeds, almost has breaking balls working all the way up/down the velocity spectrum. Still gaining confidence in change up. One of the best arms in the class. Selected to the Perfect Game All-American Classic.

Right-handed hitter, gets coiled and moves into contact, calm load and approach, very aggressive swing with plus/plus bat speed, easy over the fence power, ball explodes off the barrel, very high ceiling offensive tools. 6.83 runner, arm strength stands out both in the outfield and behind the plate, very solid mechanics behind the plate, quick feet and quick exchange, can show either elite arm strength or elite pop times. Highest level right field tools on defense should he end up there, also has experience at third base. Top ranked player in the 2014 class, tools are eye opening and performs at a very high level. Sonny Gray is a 2008 RHP/IF with a 6-0, 185 lb. frame from Smyrna, TN who attends Smyrna. He has a strong lower half and a looser, slimmer upper 1/2. Gray throws from a high 3/4's release point with some fall off to first base on release but his arm is very quick and the ball comes out of his hand very easily. He has a full delivery but it's fluid and easy and well balanced to release. Gray warmed up throwing 93 mph with little effort and he was consistently 93-95 mph in the game and didn't throw a pitch under 92 mph. Despite the 95's, his real eye opening pitch is a 84 mph curveball that has a downer power bite with excellent depth. Some might be tempted to look at the velo and label it a slider, but it's a curveball with curveball rotation and depth. Gray also shows a nice feel for a young pitcher for a change up. Gray's raw stuff and build is similar to Kyle Drabek, the Phillies first round pick in 2006. Gray is also an outstanding athlete, a highly accomplished football player who can play shortstop and swing the bat with authority. He has a verbal commitment to Vanderbilt.

Curveball best pitch, big size, sharp biting action, same release point as fastball, commands curveball well, buckles some knees. Tends to lower release point on change up, good arm speed and feel, lots of confidence in change and throws plenty of them but it's his 3rd best pitch. Good right-handed swing, has some bat speed.
