FORT MYERS, Fla. – The 89th Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be played Tuesday night, July 17, at Nationals Park in Washington D.C., and will be televised live on Fox Sports beginning at 8 p.m. EDT.
Nearly 80 of the most outstanding players from the American and National leagues will take part in the blockbuster event, and this year that number includes 29 big-leaguers that participated in Perfect Game showcases and tournaments during their high school years.
Among the PG alumnus are four position-player starters on the American League side and another five for the National League. Additionally, seven major league stars who played in the PG All-American Classic – and even more who were at the PG National Showcase – the summer before their senior year in high school are expected to be in attendance. The PGAA’s are:
Catcher Buster Posey from the Giants (2004 PGAAC), right-hander Jeremy Jeffress from the Brewers (2006), infielder Freddie Freeman from the Braves (2006), infielder Ryan “Scooter” Gennett from the Reds (2008), outfielder Bryce Harper from the Nationals (2009), infielder Javier Baez from the Cubs (2010) and infielder Alex Bregman from the Astros (2011); Posey is injured and will not play.
The PG alumni date back as far as 2000 and 2001 with Zack Greinke and Joseph “Joey” Votto and also as recently as 2010-2011 with Baez, Bregman and Aaron Nola.
