2006 California Uncommitted Showcase
Byron Minnich is a 2007 RHP with a 5'11'', 160 lb. frame from Thousand Oaks CA, who attends Thousand Oaks HS. Minnich has a lean and lanky body that is going to continue to fill out over the next few years. As he continues to add strength, his stuff is going to make a nice leap. As it stands today, he is a quality pitching prospect for the college level. He pitches from a 3/4 slot and has a long and clean arm action. Minnich has a quick arm and it works with easy effort. His delivery is athletic and has good rhythm. His body control allows him to get nice frontside extension. Minnich's fastball topped at 84 mph and sat 82-84, with plus, late movement. At times it had sink and when he went up on the zone it had bore action. His fastball is a good pitch and will get even better. He competes in very well to RH hitters. Minnich showed feel of a nice two plane curveball and has a good change-up. His slot is suited for the change-up, so expect that pitch continue to develop. Minnich has good stuff and a good repertoire. He is a ground ball pitcher who works aggressively to force contact, competes well and pitches with poise. Follow him closely this spring and if that jump doesn't happen by then, follow him if he goes the JC route.
