2006 California Uncommitted Showcase
Joe Strawn is a 2007 3B/P/1B with a 6'1'', 175 lb. frame from Watsonville CA, who attends Monte Vista Christian HS. He has a strong, broad frame that can hold more future strength and size gains. Strawn did a lot right in the showcase, particularly with the bat. Offensively he showed his physical strength, driving the bat through the contact point quite well and showing some present day power that will continue to develop as he becomes more polished. He swings aggressively and maintains good balance. Strawn has a good trigger and transfers his weight to the front foot with good timing. He is pretty short to the ball and can let it get deep, banging the ball to the opposite field on a few occasions. Defensively he showed good hands and some body control. His arm strength did not show well across the diamond but he did touch up to 79 on the mound. He is a hard nosed player and makes his plays at 3rd base, but the bat is his tool that shines most. Strawn is a good student and a developing power prospect for the college game.
