Michael Reiling is a 2008 SS/2B with a 5'8'', 140 lb. frame from San Jose CA, who attends Valley Christian HS. He has a wiry build on an average frame. Reiling is the kind of player that elicits comparisons to David Eckstein. Reiling plays the game with infectious energy and his love of playing baseball and competing is absolutely clear to anyone who watches him play. But he is more than an intangibles, energy-type player, Reiling can play. He has a quick bat and a short, balanced swing. He has good bat control and hits to all fields. Reiling would be a good lead-off or two-hole hitter. He handles velocity very well too. He runs hard, has good instincts and leaves it all on the field. Defensively Reiling has a strong arm that does not fit his body. He has good hands and a very quick release, with a baseball clock ticking that lets him know how long he has to make a play. He takes excellent angles to the ball and reads the ball off the bat well. Reiling can pick it and play impact defense at the college level. He is a gamer and a good player, the type that thrives in college baseball.
