2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
C-RHP Craig Cameron: Cameron is a senior catcher from Iowa and a first team All-State player as a junior. He’s a big, strong kid with good all around athletic ability. Cameron has a big load at the plate and likes the ball out away from him where he can get his arms extended. He makes good consistent contact and has shown us power up the middle and to right centerfield frequently this spring. He has good hands and quickness behind the plate and works with pitchers well. He doesn’t always show his true arm strength throwing the ball, maybe because he’s trying to be too quick and short. The arm strength is there, though. Cameron also took a regular turn on the mound during the spring and threw at the Showcase. His fastball was usually in the 78-81 mph range and touched 83 mph and he would throw a big breaking 64 mph curveball. He did a good job of throwing strikes with a simple step and throw delivery and might show more velocity with more use of his body in his windup.
