2007 Atlantic Coast Underclass Showcase
Nolan Poythress is a 2009 IF/P/OF with a 6'1'', 155 lb. frame from Morrisville, NC who attends Green Hope HS. He has a tall, slender build for his age and minimal present strength. Poythress ran the 60 in 7.66 and threw 77 during infield drills. He makes good, accurate throws when he gets his feet under him but will have to work on his footwork fielding and throwing and improve his quickness to the ball. Poythress hits from a pre load approach with low hands to start his swing. He has good leverage at contact and showed some bat speed. He made solid line drive contact both in BP and in games and stayed on the plane of the ball well. He could develop some gap power as he gets stronger. Poythress also pitched some and threw up to 78 mph from a simple delivery and a long, slinging arm action. His 68 mph curveball flashed some good spin that should fool high school hitters. Poythress is a good student.
