2021 PG Softball Beta Combine #2
Skyler Peterson is a 5’8, class of 2025, RHP/1B/OF from Muscatine, IA who will attend Muscatine, HS. A powerfully built younger player, Skyler is aggressive and talented in and with all of her actions on the field and has a promising future in the game. She ran a solid 3.38 20 yard/60 foot dash and a sound 5.31 shuttle. Defensively, Skyler took rounds in the OF and at 1B. In the OF she utilized a measured, but sure approach. She fields IF-like with two hands, out front, and transitions to a strong, accurate arm. At 1B, she looks to be very comfortable, and her talent is truly evident. She shows excellent footwork around the bag. She reads the ball off the bat well and is fearless in and with her fielding action. Her glove plays, and she transitions to throw well. Her strong arm allows her throws to show carry and be routinely on target. In the circle, Skyler may show her number one projectable talent. She throws six pitches, which she’ll probably need to cut down on as she progresses through her career. Her power pitch game plays at a high level already. Her FB, CB, and Rise are impressive, and she throws all three with outstanding confidence and rare ability, especially for a pitcher so young in both development and career. Her drop, change, and two-seam FB are also solid pitches that will certainly continue to develop, and she needs at least one of them, probably her change-up, to rise to the level of her big three, upside, power pitches. No doubt, however, Skyler has a big future in the circle. With continued development and attention to detail, she will impact the high school, travel ball, and ultimately, college softball levels before her career is over. To complete Skyler’s projectability is her unquestioned ability with a bat in her hands. She has a veteran’s approach at the dish and can move the ball with authority. Her skill at the bunt game is unusual and unique and probably only works for Skyler. She utilizes a late, push/drag approach that deadens the ball. It works and works well. She is a fearless swinger. She is more inside-out with her path right now and uses a negative load and some leg lift to generate force to and through contact. Her style is truly hers. And it works. For her. She can power the ball, especially well, to the off field. As her career continues and she gets a bit stronger, and matures physically, she’ll learn to use the whole field and the ball will really start flying. Skyler is a multi-tool, multi-position prospect with a big future. She will only be limited by her drive and desire, and both appear to be present and will be present for the foreseeable future.
