Ben Berkhof is a 2023 LHP/1B with a 6-2 180 lb. frame from Hudson, WI who attends Hudson. Large frame with a lean build and longer limbs. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary left handed pitcher with a side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced on back side at gather and utilized lower half well while driving to the plate. Clean arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters arm slot. Repeats arm action well. Fastball produced good downhill tilt through the zone with occasional run in the upper 70's, topped at 79 mph. Curveball showed 1/7 shape with tighter spin and late depth in the low 60's. Maintained arm speed well with a changeup offering that produced solid fade with sink in the upper 60's as well. Consistently located all three offerings within the zone. Also worked out defensively from first base showing smooth paced footwork while surrounding the baseball. Funnels from a slightly deeper position and worked through exchange efficiently. Released from a high three-quarters arm slot creating accurate carry to the bag at 78 mph. Left handed hitter with an upright, even stance and simple leg lift trigger. Loose hand path to contact with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Showed developing feel for the barrel while employing a mid field approach. Flashed some jump off the barrel when delivering barrel out front on time. Good student as well.
