2019 Mid-Atlantic Prospect Showcase
Christian Kegel is a 2021 C/RHP/3B with a 6-4 210 lb. frame from Newtown Square, PA who attends Marple Newtown. Big and strong athletic build, stands out physically. Primary catcher who worked out in the infield as well but grades out much higher as a primary pitcher. Has a slow paced delivery with good balance, lands a bit open with his front side but keeps his direction to the plate, well, high 3/4's arm action that creates good angle to the plate. Fastball topped out at 84 mph, arm strength shows much better on the mound, worked down in the zone with his fastball and got ground balls, threw what looked like a 2-seamer in the upper 70's with some sink. Tends to wrap curveball a bit in back but created good spin on the pitch, showed some feel for a developing change up. Right handed hitter, has a severe backwards lean in his swing from a big leg raise start, long pull and lift approach, has the strength to hit with adjustments. 7.27 runner, has young footwork behind the plate blocking and throwing, long arm action. Named to the Mid-Atlantic Top Prospect List as a pitcher.
