Colton Penner is a 2023 C/RHP/3B with a 5-11 190 lb. frame from Matthews, NC who attends Weddington. Stout medium build with present physicality and athleticism. Ran the 60 yard dash at 7.32 seconds. Primary position C who showed refined actions and overall mechanics behind the plate. Clean footwork getting himself in line as he gained ground leading to nice compact arm action. Throws were accurate and consistent and he showed velocity up to 72 mph down to 2B. Right handed hitter with strength in the core and translates it well into the hands at contact. Crouched stance and loads significantly into his backside before getting the front foot down. Does get a little heavy to his front side at times causing early rotation and bottom of the ball contact. However, the ball gets off his barrel in a hurry when all is synched up. Bat played up in a big way in game, taking pitches middle in and punishing them to the pull side collecting several hits. Pitched as well, using a full wind up with long side step before lifting his leg belt high. Used a hesitation right before transition, when he got the arm up he showed a FB up to 76 mph with fading action and a CB with occasional depth. Good all around player and very good student.
