Chris Shipstead is a 2020 RHP/OF with a 6-3 175 lb. frame from Clarksville, TN who attends Rossview. Large frame with longer limbs and an athletic build. Frame projects to support additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Primary right handed pitcher with a side step to high leg lift delivery. Stays flexed on back side at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Lands at a closed position on front side creating crossfire at release. Hides baseball well at take back and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball flashed some downhill plane through the zone in the low to mid 70's, topped at 75 mph. Slider offering displayed looser spin out of hand with 10/5 sweep to glove side. Consistently looked to challenge hitters and induce weaker contact. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing smooth footwork while closing to the baseball. Clean glove actions at pick up and maintained momentum towards the bag while working through exchange. Released from a three-quarters slot generating some on line carry to the bag at 79 mph. Right handed hitter with a slightly crouched, slightly open stance and simple front side trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose hand path to baseball with a level, line drive barrel plane through extension. Displayed developing feel for the barrel while employing a gap to gap approach. Very good student as well.
