Jason Portella is a 2022 C/OF with a 6-0 155 lb. frame from Yorktown Heights, NY who attends Lakeland. Large, athletic frame with a lean and projectable build, room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.06 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, higher set behind plate in drills, gains ground coming out of set, receives the ball out front, shows accuracy on throws, arm strength will continue to develop. Fields the ball to side in the outfield, early hand break into a tight arm action, under the ball at release occasionally, works to a higher release point. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; upper body dominant swing with limited shift through lower half. Contact oriented approach, keeps hands inside the ball throughout swing with long path through the zone. Comfort working to pull side, can implement additional weight shift and extension out front. Good student.
