Payton Matthews is a 2021 LHP/OF with a 5-10 140 lb. frame from Sainte Genevieve, MO who attends Ste. Genevieve. Young and slender build. High leg raise delivery, stays on line well and gets out front consistently, has a loose wrist on release, extended 3/4's arm slot, shows his athleticism well in his mechanics. Mid-70's fastball, topped out at 77 mph, seems to get on hitter's quickly, showed the ability to move his fastball around to spots and work quickly, fastball had good arm side running action at times. Curveball showed good bite and he developed good feel for it after using it a few times. Throws strikes and misses low when he misses. Has a mature idea how to pitch, now needs for his body to start maturing and getting stronger as well,. 7.38 runner, showed his athleticism well in outfield drills, with good actions through the ball and an easy and accurate arm. Right handed hitter, hits from a wide, slightly open stance, upper half rotational swing.
