Jesse Leyva is a 2023 RHP/C, IF with a 5-3 119 lb. frame from Oak Hills, CA who attends . Young, square shouldered frame with a lean and projectable build, room to fill and develop moving forward. Ran a 9.25 60-yard dash. Primary righthanded pitcher, side step moving into contact with a short hip turn at top, short stride coming down the mound with a full arm action through the back working to a three-quarters release point. Fastball topped out at 61 mph, shows cut action and can incorporate additional finish over front side; pitched to contact and threw strikes. Mixed a curveball at 53 mph with short depth when on top. Takes short steps moving towards the ball in the infield, fields it out front and works behind the ball, compact arm action, gets under the ball at release, young actions. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and lower back elbow in the box; weight starts on backside and utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing at the plate. Contact oriented approach with an upper body dominant swing, can shift weight through lower half moving into contact. Puts the ball in play and stays short with swing path and stays on a linear plane. Good student.
