Rene Gutierrez is a 2023 SS/RHP, IF, OF with a 5-7 150 lb. frame from El Paso, TX who attends Coronado HS. Recorded a 7.65 second 60-yard dash time. Younger frame with some present athleticism and room to fill. Primary shortstop with a lower arm slot and loose arm stroke. Short steps to the ball with good accuracy across and arm strength recorded up to 69 mph. Has some feel for the position and the hands work well. Secondary righthanded pitcher with a big rocker step into a leg lift above the belt. High lead arm and the fastball has some sink to it. Compact path to release and gets on top of the ball. Throwing strikes best to the glove side and releases from a higher arm slot. Spins off front foot and flashed a softer curveball. Righthanded hitter with a high hand set, high back elbow, and an even stance. Upper half dominant swing and has a downhill swing plane. Linear through the zone and can work to all fields. Power will improve with additional strength.
