Gavan Wernsing is a 2022 LHP/1B with a 6-1 225 lb. frame from Effingham, IL who attends Stewardson-Strasburg. Large frame with present strength throughout. Thick build with a broad chest. Ran an 8.55 second 60-yard dash. Primary lefthanded pitcher with a short side step delivery into a belt high leg lift. Stays tall on the backside and works slightly closed off down the mound. Long arm stroke coming through to a high three-quarter slot. Naturally cutting life through the zone on the fastball topping out at 83 MPH. Will also mix in a two-seam that runs to the arm side. Works down in the zone well. Occasionally went to a curveball with an 11-to-5 shape and softer spin. Also worked out defensively as a secondary first baseman. Sits back some at field getting underneath with funnel at times. Clean glove actions. Longer arm into strength in arm at 78 MPH. Lefthanded hitter with an even stance and quick leg lift trigger. Short linear drifts into contact. Will produce lifted contact when getting under the ball and finding the barrel. Good student as well.
