Sam Shopbell is a 2020 C/RHP, MIF with a 6-0 179 lb. frame from Shakopee, MN who attends Prior Lake. Ran 7.62 second sixty-yard dash. Primary catcher with a medium frame and build, and starts from a low, side straddle stance behind the plate. Moves well, gaining ground to second base with a quick exchange, recording a 1.94 second pop time. Has developing arm strength, making accurate throws from a short and compact arm action at 77 miles per hour. Secondary infielder that fields out front with a clean funnel in, working through the backhand well with clean and quick transfers to throw. Makes accurate throws across the diamond at 79 miles per hour. Has a wide stance at the plate, with a high back elbow and short leg lift trigger. Has a downhill path to contact, flashing the ability to drive balls to the pull side at times. Secondary right-handed pitcher that starts from the windup, with a big side step into a belt high leg lift. Has drop and drive actions down the mound, creating good linear direction down the mound before landing slightly to the glove side. Has a short and compact arm stroke, releasing from a mid three-quarter arm slot. Gets some downhill plane to the fastball at 79-to-82 miles per hour, mixing speeds well with a curveball that has 11-5 shape and some depth. Attacks the zone with good tempo and mound presence.
