Owen Wessel is a 2021 SS/2B with a 5-7 145 lb. frame from Huntington Beach, CA who attends Mater Dei. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.37 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, moves well to the ball and works behind it well, fields the ball out front, comes through the backhand cleanly, repeats actions and shows carry on throws from an extended slot, occasional cut on throws from getting on side of the ball, gets good reads. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide and spread stance with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a simple leg lift trigger for timing at the plate. Shows looseness to hands with a full swing path through the zone, swings with intent and creates extension out front. Creates some torque and turns on the ball well, line drive contact, strength off of the barrel projects with physical gains. Very good student. Named to the West Coast Top Prospect List.
