Matthew Merino is a 2022 2B/SS, OF with a 5-10 150 lb. frame from Sunnyvale, CA who attends St. Francis. Medium frame with a compact build and square shoulders. Ran a 7.75 second 60-yard dash. Worked out defensively as a primary second baseman. Aggressive close when working to the baseball. Fields out in front with a funnel in. Works through some quickness in exchanges and into a three-quarter slot at release. Soft carry to the bag making accurate throws at 66 MPH. Righthanded hitter with a narrow stance to start and utilizing a leg lift trigger through load. Works through an elevated bat path with rotational actions. Looks to get contact to the pull side and generate lift out in front. Excellent student as well.
