Brock Gates is a 2007 1B/OF from Decatur HS, residing in Federal Way, WA, with a 6'2" 190 lb. frame. He has a good body, is strong and athletic with a chance to be quite physical. As a hitter Gates is pretty quiet. He displayed ok balance and pretty easy effort. The ball was lifted easily at contact. Gates has a good hand path and his lower half works. It looks like he should really continue to hit. He has good bat speed and made a lot of strong barrel contact in the games and in BP. The ball came off his bat well and he used the whole field. On defense Gates stays low on groundballs. He has some feel around the bag. He was interesting as a follow prospect because of his bat. Follow him into this summer to see how he does against top pitching... he's interesting.
