James Whitman is a 2022 C/1B with a 6-4 215 lb. frame from Spring Valley, CA who attends Helix. Large frame with strong, physical build; ran 60 yard dash in 7.32 seconds. Hits from even-based stance with high hands and back elbow, hands locked inside through stroke, wants to be inside the ball, rotational in torso, stationary lower half, has some strength when on time, hands are strong, can drive it. Primary catcher, gains ground and shows good footwork out of crouch, pretty simple and repeatable, strong arm, release a bit elongated, clocked up to 76 mph on throws. Also took reps at 1st base and showed solid footwork off the bag, turns well and shows good arm strength, clocked up to 83 mph on throws across the diamond. Very good student.
