Ruben Vera III is a 2021 SS/RHP with a 5-9 135 lb. frame from Fairfield, CA who attends Armijo. Compact frame with a lean build. Frame projects for additional strength with continued physical maturity. Primary shortstop with smooth, sound footwork while traveling to and rounding the baseball. Smooth, clean glove actions while funneling and working through exchange. Flashed good range to each side with the ability to throw while on the run. Primarily released from a three-quarters slot produce on line carry to the bag, topped at 74 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a balanced stance. Stacks back side at load and works to contact with some linear shift. Loose, extended path to contact with an uphill barrel plane through extension. Flashed some fluidity through the zone and showed the present barrel feel to work to the middle of the field and opposite way. Also pitched utilizing a simple rock step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side and works to the plate with tall and fall actions. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball showed some running action to arm side with occasional sink, topped at 75 miles per hour. Curveball had 12/6 shape with tight spin and late, hard depth in the low 60's. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with a changeup offering that showed some sink with run in the mid 60's. Consistently looked to attacked hitters and effectively changed speeds. Excellent student.
