Matthew Taormina is a 2019 C with a 5-9 170 lb. frame from Wilmington, DE who attends Wilmington Friends High School. Medium, broad shouldered frame with a mature build and present strength throughout. Ran a 5.39 40-yard dash. Primary catcher, sound set up behind the plate, receives the ball out front, full arm action through the backside, gets tall at release and can continue to incorporate lower half to help gain ground, gets on top of throws to second base, arm strength will continue to develop. Righthanded hitter, begins with a slightly open stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Utilizes a high leg lift trigger for timing at the plate; upper body dominant swing with a full path through the zone. Longer stride moving into contact, shows a linear stroke with occasional leverage out front, worked the middle and pull side parts of the field while showing some feel for the barrel. Good student.
