Von Smeltzer is a 2021 RHP/OF with a 6-3 178 lb. frame from Parkland, FL who attends Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Tall and slender build with plenty of room to fill out and get stronger. Side arm pitcher, full long and loose arm action in back, comes cross body out front with full extension and whip, gets good lower half turn and hip drive to the plate. Upper 70's fastball topped out at 80 mph with good sink and run, has good fastball command and can move it around the zone. Sweeping soft slider was his pitch, uses it often and can spot it, especially likes to back door left handed hitters with the pitch. Very effective outing. 7.36 runner. Right handed hitter, has a short contact swing that is well controlled with contact to all fields. Good student.
