Rece Gustafson is a 2019 RHP/1B, MIF, OF with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Rockwall, TX who attends Rockwall-Heath. Medium frame with a solid, athletic build. Primary right handed pitcher with a smooth paced, rock step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays tall and balanced on back side at gather and worked to the plate with slight drop and drive actions. Lands in line with the plate and carries momentum to target. Clean arm circle at take back and released from a loose, high three-quarters slot. Present feel and command for fastball that had running action to arm side with occasional sink, topped at 81 miles per hour. Curveball showed proper shape with good spin and quality depth in the upper 60's. Also flashed a changeup offering that sat in the low 70's. Stays in tempo and repeats mechanics well. Consistently changed speeds and showed the ability to work to all quadrants of the strike zone. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing deliberate footwork while surrounding the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling with developing fluidity while working through transfer. Released from a three-quarters arm slot topping at 76 miles per hour to the bag. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and simple front side trigger. Shifts into contact well with linear lower half actions. Loose path to baseball with an uphill barrel plane through extension. Swung with intent and looked to drive the ball through the gaps. Flashed the hand and bat speed to turn the barrel to baseball and work to pull side with authority. Good student.
