Owen Sutherland is a 2020 OF/RHP, C with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Omaha, NE who attends Millard North. Medium frame with a lean build and beginnings of strength. Primary outfielder with aggressive footwork while closing to and working through the baseball. Reads the baseball well and working though transition well. Lower exchanges and utilized a loose arm action at release. Throws produced some on line carry to the bag topping at 80 miles per hour. Also worked out defensively from behind the plane showing a deep, side set stance while receiving the baseball. Gains ground towards the bag with loose lower half actions. Clean glove circle while working thorough exchange and released from a three-quarters slot. Throws generated on line carry to the bag topping at 74 miles per hour, best workout pop time of 2.16. Right handed hitter with an even stance and simple front side trigger. Works to contact with rotational actions. Clean hand path and flashed good strength at contact with a linear barrel plane. Looks to connect with baseball out front and generated some carry to gaps when squared. Also pitched showing a side step delivery. Stays balanced at gather and lands in line with the plate. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Flashed some arm speed through extension with a fastball that generated some sink in the low to mid 70's, topped at 75 miles per hour. Displayed good feel for fastball with the ability to consistently work to each edge of the zone. Good student as well.
