Will McDonald is a 2018 1B/RHP, 3B with a 6-5 230 lb. frame from Middlebury, CT who attends Pomperaug Regional. Tall, large frame with broad shoulders and present strength throughout. Ran a 7.24 sixty-yard dash. Primary first baseman with smooth paced, deliberate footwork while centering the baseball. Funnels the baseball from a slightly deeper position with clean glove actions and exchanges. Showed a smooth arm action at released generating some on line carry to the bag with accuracy. Right handed hitter with a spread, even stance and high back elbow set. Utilized a simple front side trigger while lower half worked to contact with rotational actions. Loose, extended hand path to contact with a level plane through extension. Created some lift at contact when attacking baseball out front. Showed present strength at contact the generated hard, loud contact when on time and squared between the outfield gaps. Also pitched showing a small rock step to high leg lift delivery. Stays tall and balanced on back side at gather and worked to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Lands at a closed position on front side generating crossfire at released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball flashed good downhill angle through the zone in the mid 70's, topped at 77 miles per hour. Curveball had proper shape with some spin and occasional depth when located down in the zone. Good student as well.
