Ian Guthrie is a 2020 C/1B with a 5-10 190 lb. frame from Austin, TX who attends Connally. Medium frame with a solid build and strength. Primary catcher with a slightly side set stance while receiving the baseball. Gains ground to the bag while working out of crouch and utilized a looser glove circle at exchange. Throws produced some on line carry to the bag from a three-quarters slot topping at 70 mph, best workout pop time of 2.21. Also worked out defensively from first base showing smooth paced footwork while rounding the baseball. Funnels from a slightly deeper position and worked through exchange well. Produced accurate throws across the infield topping at 73 mph. Right handed hitter with a slightly crouched, slightly open stance and medium leg lift trigger. Created some linear shift into contact with lower half. Compact, direct hand path to baseball with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Flashed present strength at contact with the bat speed to drive the ball through the gaps with ease. Excellent student. Named to the 2019 West Academic Showcase, Top Prospect List.
